Projects
Projects and topics I've explored which include celebrating nature and all its beauty, from birds and mushroom to raw landscapes and fynbos.

Resilient In Nature: Fynbos Studies
Being born in South Africa has deeply shaped my creative perspective lately. I'm especially inspired by indigenous plants, particularly the remarkable fynbos. Fynbos can only be found in South Africa and nowhere else in the world, making it one of the most unique and special natural ecosystems on Earth.
In many ways, I resonate with that uniqueness. Just as fynbos exists only here in South Africa, each person carries their own story, perspective and voice that cannot be found anywhere else. It reminds me that there is only one of me.

Witteberg Mountains
I was greatly inspired to bring to life some images photographed by a friend of mine who went to the Witteberg area. From those images I looked into the surrounding flora of the area and the raw beauty of the staggering peaks and contrasting shadows between the rocks and hills.
The Witteberg Private Nature Reserve is a mountain range which lies nearby to Laingsburg, Western Cape. It's well known for its beautiful Groove-leaf Sugarbush as well as the Rolled-leaf Sugarbush, these unique protea species inspired me to represent them in my drawings. I used a subtle warm brown as my color of choice, as the project proceeded I wanted them to have an old map sort of feel, old timey and vintage. They sort of became my own mappings of the area; places I want to see for myself.

Landscapes
I've created a series of mountain scenes and landscapes, looking at their rock texture, line work and shadows and abstracting them slightly; adjusting them more to my style. I've loved creating these drawings as I get to revisit these favourite places of mine and draw them, capturing their essence in my own way.
Fungi, Wings & Insects
I chose familiar birds, insects and mushrooms to draw as an exercise of choosing definable characteristics and emphasising them in my own style and working with my favourite mediums to create this series.
I focussed on species found in the South African region, but chose different varieties of mushrooms to study and recreate.
