Projects

Mushrooms

I explored mushrooms and their textures for this project. I intended to capture their organic likeness and colours, emphasising certain ones I loved more which I saw in shadows and details. I also found inspiration from many other mushroom shapes and forms as I researched different species and chose different ones to showcase.

Landscapes

I've created a series of mountain scenes and landscapes, looking at their rock texture, line work and shadows and abstracting them slightly; adjusting them more to my style. I've loved creating these drawings as I get to revisit these favourite places of mine and draw them, capturing their essence in my own way.

Bugs & Birds

I chose familiar insects and birds to draw as an exercise of choosing definable characteristics of a creature and working with my favourite mediums to create this series.

I focussed on local creatures found in the South African region.

Organic Shapes

This series of artworks explored the relationship of organic matter growing against and symbiotically with another material. I thought about construction and buildings that grow small weeds and plants over time, often overlooked and too small for interest. I also thought about how some plants need props and tougher materials in order to grow strong and tall and I liked this contrast as it resonated with myself and how often people need a strong person or support system to lean on and go back to in order to grow.

This project also was a celebration and exploration of greenery and perspective where one can see a plants root system and what its structure looks like.
