Places That Found Me

This body of work explores my relationship with South Africa, where I was born. I'm inspired by indigenous plants, and my process behind these artworks incudes being present in wild spaces and using my time there as a sort of pilgrimage and noticing all the little moments, intricacies, intermingling species and plants.

Each artwork was a response to being in these places and how I felt while I was there. Certain plants were also used that were found in those places. I'm concerned with integrating plants and animal species with feelings, dreamscapes and imagined places to these artworks. Central in this body of work was investigating identity, feelings, femininity and growth. Examining these experiences and cycles of transformation, my work reflects my relationship with maternity and how my identity and femininity can be expressed and weaving this with indigenous plants and fynbos.
