Reflections of Self

A body of work which is a celebration of self, identity and what it means to be a woman.

I chose textiles, crochet, knitting and weaving as they're considered "craft", I explored what craft means and the term "woman's work". Crafts and handwork are often passed down in families by women, close secrets and techniques passed down from generation to generation.

These artworks reflect my thoughts and feelings. They take on shapes and colours I see in my mind when I feel different emotions. In some ways these captured forms are like specimens I've taken samples of and materialised as a way of understanding my feelings.

These artworks are extremely fragile and have a sense of being ephemeral as they're made of paper pulp which can break at any time. I wanted this to also represent how feelings and thought are so vulnerable and ephemeral, almost cloud-like and represent a dreamscape and a sort of mind space of mine.

The artworks include a large scale installation, mini framed artworks and a series of hanging artworks.
